Custom fence design and build

A custom fence is built when a standard option won't fit your property or your taste. You might want a fence that follows a sloped lot, matches the trim on your house, or includes a decorative gate. Homeowners call when they have a specific vision and need someone who can turn that idea into a working fence.

We start by walking the property line and taking measurements. We check the grade and note any roots or rocks. The design is drawn to scale, showing post spacing, rail height, and any curves or built-in features. Materials are ordered, cedar, pine, metal, or a mix. On site, we set batter boards, dig holes with a power auger, set posts in concrete, and check plumb with a level. Rails and pickets go on after the concrete cures.

Cost and timeline shift with access: a tight backyard with no gate means we carry everything by hand. A steep slope takes more cuts and longer posts. The material choice matters, cedar costs more than pine but resists rot better. Adding decorative tops, arched gates, or built-in planters adds labor. Wet ground slows digging; dry weather lets concrete set faster. The job size and complexity drive everything.

On build day, we park in the driveway and lay tarps to protect the lawn. We cut lumber on sawhorses and keep the work area tidy. After the last picket is nailed, we clean up all sawdust, scraps, and fasteners. Before we arrive, you should mark any sprinkler heads or buried lines. After we leave, let the post concrete cure for 24 hours before leaning anything against the fence.
